Socio-Cultural Activities
The objectives of these activities are the same over the years and are part of our tradition:
- Break the isolation;
- Encourage families to discuss issues of concern that their concern directly;
- Promote awareness and personal involvement;
- Develop mutual assistance;
- Elicit the Formation of a project between the families.
Our socio-cultural activities have been, and are still appreciated, so we intend to redouble our efforts in this direction over the subsequent years to increase the size and the regularity of its operations and diversify the themes that will be discussed.
Recycling clothes new and used
Since a few years we bring our contribution to the recycling of used clothing, achieved mainly through donations. Aware of the vital importance that represents the needs of the dress, the Foundation of the Samaritans Pilgrims continues, in spite of our resources, to make the recycling of clothing a viable activity
Clothing counter
The clothing counter represents for many families the main opportunity to acquire quality clothing at prices that are very low.
The clothing counter has become a necessity for many people, and we continue to work to make it accessible to the largest possible number of families, especially at this time of economic gloom. In 2008, nearly 200 families have attended our clothing counter. This counter has as its main mission the sale of used clothing and it costs very minimal and sometimes symbolic.
Literacy
The literacy program is frequented by a clientele consisting mainly of allophones. This service provides our customers the elements of basic literacy skills that will allow them to better integrate into quebec society. Nearly sixty people were able to take advantage of this service during the year 2008.
Francisation-Alpha, homework help, information for parents, newly arrived in the country to find out how does the school system so that they are better equipped to provide help their children cope with the academic challenges that await them
Food Bank
The food bank is a great success and a service that is highly appreciated. We managed to feed a weekly basis over 80 families during the year 2008. This bank provides our customers with a healthy, balanced and of quality. It is for many the only source of regular and constant supply of food.
